Mix Daal

A perfect blend of lentils, slow-cooked with desi spices, thick, flavorful & nutritious.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole moong · sabut green daal
  • 1 cup white beans
  • 1 cup whole masoor · brown lentils
  • 1 cup chana daal
  • 1 cup whole urad

Spices

  • 3 tsp red chilli powder
  • 2 tsp chilli flakes
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 2 chicken cube

Other ingredients

  • 2 chopped onion
  • 2 chopped tomato
  • 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 16 cups water
  • 2 tsp cumin · zeera

Instructions

  1. Soak all for 4 hours.
  2. Add soaked daals to pressure cooker.
  3. Add 1 chopped onion, 1 chopped tomato, 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste.
  4. Add spices: 1½ tsp red chilli powder, 1 tsp chilli flakes, salt to taste, ½ tsp turmeric and 1 chicken cube.
  5. Add 8 cups water, mix well.
  6. Pressure cook 20-25 mins (medium flame)
  7. Final touch: check consistency; if thick, add 1 cup water & simmer 5 mins; add coriander, lemon, green chillies, julienne ginger.
  8. Tarka: heat oil; add sliced onion, garlic, 1 tsp cumin (zeera), whole red chillies; fry golden & pour over daal.
  9. Serve with rice or roti/naan.
