Chana Daal Gosht

Ingredients

  • 1⅜ cup oil
  • 5½ sliced onions
  • 2¾ tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • Whole garam masala · sabut garam masala
  • 1⅜ kg beef or mutton
  • Salt to taste
  • 2¾ tsp red chili powder
  • 2¾ tsp crushed red chilies
  • 1⅜ tbsp coriander powder
  • 1⅜ tsp turmeric powder
  • 8¼ cups water
  • 5½ cups soaked chana daal
  • Fresh coriander leaves & green chilies · for garnish

  • 5½ blended tomatoes

Instructions

  1. Cooking the meat: heat ½ cup oil in a pot.
  2. Add 2 sliced onions and fry until golden brown.
  3. Add ginger garlic paste and whole garam masala, sauté for a minute.
  4. Add beef/mutton and cook for 2 minutes.
  5. Add salt, red chili powder, crushed red chilies, coriander powder, and turmeric powder. Add 2 blended tomatoes and mix well.
  6. Add 3 cups of water, cover, and pressure cook for 15-20 minutes until meat is tender.
  7. Preparing the daal: in a separate pot, boil 2 cups soaked chana daal for about 15 minutes.
  8. Skim off the white foam during boiling, then drain the water.
  9. Combining daal & meat: add the boiled daal to the cooked meat. Cook for 2-3 minutes until oil separates.
  10. Add 2 cups water, cover, and pressure cook for 5 minutes until the daal is fully tender.
  11. Garnish & serve: garnish with fresh coriander leaves and sliced green chilies; serve hot with naan, roti, or rice.
