Arvi Chicken

Ingredients

  • Oil: 1/3 cup
  • Onions: 3 · sliced
  • Chicken: 1/2 kg
  • Ginger garlic paste: 1 tbsp
  • Water: 1/3 cup
  • Tomatoes: 2 · blended
  • Arvi / Taro root: 750 g
  • Yogurt: 1/2 cup
  • Green chillies: as required
  • Garam masala: for sprinkling
  • Lemon juice: 1 lemon
  • Spices
  • Red chilli powder: 1 tsp
  • Crushed red chillies: 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder: 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder: 1/2 tbsp
  • Salt: to taste

Instructions

  1. In 1/3 cup oil, add sliced onions and fry until golden brown. Take out 1/3 of the fried onions and set aside.
  2. In the remaining fried onions, add chicken and ginger garlic paste. Cook well for a few minutes, then add 1/3 cup water.
  3. Now add blended tomatoes and mix well. Add red chilli powder, crushed red chillies, turmeric powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook for about 5 minutes or until the oil separates.
  4. In a separate pan, lightly fry the arvi for 2 minutes. Add the fried arvi to the chicken masala and mix gently.
  5. Now add 3 cups of water, cover the lid, and cook on low flame for 15 minutes or until the arvi becomes tender.
  6. Blend 1/2 cup yogurt with the reserved fried onions. Add this mixture to the arvi chicken and mix gently. Cover again and cook until the oil comes out on top.
  7. Finally, add green chillies, sprinkle garam masala, and squeeze fresh lemon juice for extra flavor.
  8. Serve hot with roti, naan, or rice.
